The Blue Flag Program has announced the list of beaches with Blue Flag 2022. Among the new locations added in Sardinia is the Municipality of Budoni with Budoni Bay.
The Budoni Beach has therefore received the recognition of the Blue Flag 2022, meeting the requirements regarding beach cleanliness, the standards required for bathing waters, and for the presence of services.

Budoni is a village located along the northeast coast of Sardinia. It is about 30 km south of Olbia and about 12 km south of San Teodoro near the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara and Punta Coda Cavallo.

What is the Blue Flag Program?
The International Blue Flag Program is a certification of environmental quality – and more – of bathing locations.
The project, initially European in scope, now includes 49 countries worldwide and boasts a partnership with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The criteria assessed are quite detailed, and maintaining standards is required. Among the requirements to obtain the Blue Flag are:
- water quality with sampling of bathing waters
- promotion of environmental education programs
- proper environmental management
- presence of services with particular attention to safety
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)
Since 1987, the non-governmental and non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) evaluates with parameters the characteristics and quality of beaches and landings.
Once the evaluation process is completed, it awards the deserving locations with a certification that attests that the area is managed in a sustainable manner.
The Blue Flag refers to proper land management through the promotion of environmentally friendly activities and sustainable tourism enhancement.
