The boat trip to Neptune's Cave is the most scenic way to reach one of the most beautiful marine cavities in the Mediterranean. Departing from the port of Alghero, the boats coast along the breathtaking shorelines of the Coral Riviera and the impressive cliffs of Cape Caccia, depositing passengers directly at the entrance of the cave, at water level.
Where do you depart from and how long is the boat trip?
Ferries to the Neptune's Cave depart from the tourist port of Alghero, at dock Cristoforo Colombo. The crossing takes about 50 minutes each way and offers spectacular views of the limestone cliffs and the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Alghero. During the journey, it is possible to spot cormorants, peregrine falcons and, with a bit of luck, dolphins and Caretta caretta turtles.
Departure times and frequencies
The trips are operational from April to October. In high season (July-August), there are generally three departures a day: at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00. The duration of the visit inside the cave is about 45 minutes, after which you reboard for the return. It is crucial to check sea conditions before departing: with a northwesterly wind force 4 or higher, services are suspended for safety.
How much does the ticket cost?
The ticket for the boat trip includes round-trip transfer and entrance to the cave. The cost is around 18 to 22 euros for adults, with reductions for children under 12 and free for under 3s. Some companies offer combined packages that also include snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Cape Caccia.
How to book
You can book your spot directly at the port ticket office or online through the websites of local shipping companies. In summer, early booking is strongly recommended, as boats fill up quickly. Alternatively, you can reach the cave by land by descending the 654 steps of the Escala del Cabirol, starting from the square of Cape Caccia.
Practical tips
- Arrive early: the ticket office opens 30 minutes before departure; present your ticket and identification.
- Clothing: bring a light layer, as the temperature inside the cave is constant at around 14–15°C.
- Seasickness: if you are sensitive, take an anti-nausea medication before departure; the sea can be rough.
- Cameras: flash photography is not always allowed inside; check with the guide before entering.
