Where can I hire a dinghy in Sardinia?
If you want to visit north-eastern Sardinia on board an inflatable boat, you can choose from several departure ports. To see the La Maddalena Archipelago on board a rented dinghy you can choose to start from Cannigione, Portisco, Porto Rotondo, Palumbalza Porto Oro and also from Porto Pollo. If you want to visit the beautiful islands of Tavolara and Molara, Capo Figari and the small island of Figarolo, you can start from Golfo Aranci.
Do I need a licence to hire a boat or dinghy?
It depends on the power of the engine. If the engine has a power of less than 40 horsepower, no licence is required, but if it has more than 40 horsepower, a licence is required. You will find boats and dinghies available for hire, both with and without a licence, and you can find this information in the activity preview.
What can I see?
North Sardinia and the east coast are dotted with beautiful beaches set in enchanting bays surrounded by crystal clear water. Need I say more?
You can see famous beaches such as Capriccioli, Romazzino, the Prince's Beach or Cala di Volpe. In the archipelago you can see and visit the Maddalena Islands. By hiring a dinghy at Golfo Aranci you can explore Capo Figari, Figarolo Island, Tavolara and Molara.
Is it difficult to drive an inflatable boat?
It is not difficult, but if you are a beginner without a licence, we suggest you choose an inflatable boat instead of a boat. If you have a licence but not much experience in driving a boat, choose an inflatable boat that can be driven without a licence. The more powerful and larger the boat, the more experience you will need to drive it. In general, it is always advisable to listen carefully to the initial briefing where you will be given all the information you need to spend a safe day at sea.
How should one dress?
Sardinia has mild temperatures all year round. During the summer, we recommend that you bring a hat to protect you from the sun, a swimming costume and a towel for swimming during stops. If you wish, you can also bring a jumper depending on the time of day you choose to go on the sighting tour. If you take the dolphin watching tour in winter, bring a heavy jacket and a cap. Don't forget your camera.
What should I bring in the dinghy?
The nécessaire for a perfect day at sea includes sunglasses, swimming costume, beach towel, a hat, sun cream, pareo/sunshirt for her, t-shirt/shorts for him, a sweater/fleece for everyone. Don't forget something to drink and light food for refreshment. Often in the sea during the high season there are travelling dinghies that visit all the beaches and sell drinks, ice cream and snacks.
What difficulties can I encounter?
When sailing at sea it is important to keep your attention high, not get distracted and try to orientate yourself constantly, especially if you do not know the area well. In the areas you visit there may be shoals or rocky outcrops, so pay close attention, listen to the briefing and keep your eyes open. Stay away from shorelines and beach marker buoys. At sea sometimes the weather conditions can change suddenly, in this case approach the harbour or prepare to return or call the number of the supplier you were given in the morning during the explanation.
