Emma Smith, one of the most brilliant voices in contemporary jazz
Winner of the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Vocalist of the Year award in 2024, Emma Smith is one of the most exciting performers on the international jazz scene today. Blessed with a versatile and powerful voice, she has performed on prestigious stages such as London's Royal Albert Hall and the world's most famous jazz clubs.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with music giants such as Michael Bublé, The Quincy Jones Orchestra, Jeff Goldblum, Bobby McFerrin and Gregory Porter, building a solid reputation as an expressive and charismatic artist. The recent tournée with the American super group Postmodern Jukebox further consolidated her rise.
In addition to her solo performances, Emma is a member of the renowned vocal trio The Puppini Sisters and hosted a programme on BBC Radio 3 for four years. She is also resident singer with Ronnie Scott's All Stars, an iconic group of the British jazz scene. Among the many awards he has received are a medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and his finals finish at the Montreux Jazz Competition.
In 2023, Emma was the only non-US artist among the finalists of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, selected from over 280 entries from 37 countries by an exceptional jury that included Christian McBride and Jane Monheit. In addition, she was nominated for the Parliamentary Jazz Award as 'Jazz Singer of the Year' in both 2022 and 2023, winning the title in 2024.
With her solo album Meshuga Baby, Emma won over audiences and critics, garnering millions of listens and the support of radio stations such as BBC2 (Jamie Cullum), BBC6 (Cerys Matthews), TSF and JazzFM.
Her new record, Bitter Orange, due out in summer 2025 on the American label La Reserve, promises to be an intimate project full of personality, portraying the vision and sensitivity of an artist determined to make her mark with a sound that combines past and present.
