Climb to the top at Tavolara

Tavolara is a predominantly limestone island on the north-east coast of Sardinia, between the municipalities of Olbia, Porto San Paolo and San Teodoro. A dinghy is used to reach the island and then the start of the trek that leads to the summit. The hike to Tavolara is a classic trek in Sardiniaundoubtedly one of the most beautiful and impressive hikes to be made in the area. The start of the trek is from the slopes of Tavolara, in the area of Spalmatore di Terra.

Travelling a path embedded in rock and scrubland With a little more than an hour's walk you reach a plateau, a meadow, where you can stop and rest briefly before tackling the last part of the ascent to the summit. During the trek you can take pictures of the panorama, the typical Mediterranean plants and sometimes you can meet the famous golden-toothed goats of Tavolara with whom a photograph is a must.

The last stretch of ascent to Punta Cannone is characterised by a short via ferrataa static steel cable secured in the rock, at the apex of which is the summit at about 565 metres above sea level. From Punta Cannone one enjoys a incredibly impressive 360° view of Sardinia and on fine days even the mountains of Corsica. The Madonnina on the summit overlooking the sea is a must-see for all hikers.

The descent is tackled with a rope to make the experience complete and to allow you to also experience abseiling. The trekking route is of medium difficulty and includes equipped passages to be tackled with fully supplied technical equipment. No special skills or experience are required to tackle this trek; it is necessary to be in good physical shape as well as not suffering from vertigo.
